Three Eagles bring home silver

The Eagle wrestlers traveled to the Western Kansas Tournament of Champions held in Norton on January 25. It was a challenging tournament, but three wrestlers walked out with medals.

Placing second in the 160 weight class, Colby Burkhart won his first match by a major decision over Ayden Nickelson of Hill City. Pinning Weston Pfeifer of TMP in 1:05, Burkhart moved on to his third match and won by a 7-3 decision over Aaron Moss of Smith Center. With three wins under his belt, Burkhart wrestled Brandon Bacura of Norton but unfortunately could not maintain his winning streak. He still gained a silver medal and 15 team points.

Teammate Dillon Dunn also brought home the silver in his 220 weight class. Dunn made quick work of his first three opponents, pinning Brock Buresh of Phillipsburg, Juan Mancillas of Leoti, and Seth Hilt of St. Francis. However, Dunn fell to Hayden Wiltfong of Norton in the final match. He earned 18 team points.

Not to be outdone, Parker Opat medaled in the 285 weight class by starting with a fall over Darien Dilka of Oakley. He continued to defeat his opponents Connor Staab of TMP and John Groff of Ellis in decisions. Facing Jesse Hermosillo of Leoti, Opat fell and took second place.

Also earning points for the Eagle team were Dawson Arnold, Tanner Sells, TJ Hafliger, Hayden Opat, and James Opat.
