At Goodland’s Holiday Classic wrestling tournament on December 16, the TCHS wrestling team got seventh place with 129 points.

Going 3-0, Jessika Chapman wrestled in three exhibition matches against girls. Because she only wrestled in exhibition matches, Chapman did not earn a medal or team points.

TJ Hafliger placed second and scored 31 team points. In the first round, Hafliger pinned WaKeeney’s Blake Spencer. Hafliger moved onto the second round to defeat Ryan Wessels of Garden City by fall. Hafliger won by decision in the third round over Jesse Tapia from Rocky Ford. Victorious once again, Hafliger pinned Colby wrestler Hagan Booi in the fourth round. However, in the first place round against Marco Baeza, Hafliger was pinned; this led Hafliger to a second place medal.

Dillon Dunn also placed second in the 220 weight class and earned 34 points for the team. Dunn pinned Issac Mantey from Goodland in the first round. In the second round against Juan Mancillas of Leoti, Dunn once again pinned his opponent to come out with a win. In the third round, Dunn beat Declan Ryan of Colby by fall. Again in round five, Dunn defeated Trego’s Parker Opat by fall. Dunn got pinned by Luis Ledesma from Goodland in the first place round.

Placing third in the 220 weight class, Parker Opat also wrestled for Trego. Winning by major decision in round one, Julian Facio of Garden City was defeated by Opat. In round two, Opat also defeated Goodland’s Tanner May by fall. In round four, however, Opat was defeated by Luis Ledesma of Goodland being pinned. Dunn defeated Opat in round five.

Gaining 13 points and placing fourth, Shaye Aumiller went 2-2 at Goodland. Having a tough first two rounds, Aumiller was pinned by his first opponent, Dawson Holub of Goodland, and then lost by decision against Jace Garrison of Ulysses. In the final two rounds, Aumiller was victorious. Aumiller pinned Blake Hernandez from Leoti in the third round. In the fifth round, Norton’s Alex Auker lost by decision to Aumiller.

While not earning a medal, Brady Mattke placed fifth and earned 18 team points, and Colby Burkhart placed seventh and gained 17 points.
