Dillon Dunn wrestles to victory over Doug Bates of Kapaun on Saturday, January 20, at the Bob Kuhn Classic in Hays.

The TCHS varsity wrestling team traveled to Hays to participate in the challenging Bob Kuhn Prairie Classic on January 19-20.

Dillon Dunn wrestled very well both days and ended with a fourth place finish. Dunn won his first two matches by fall against Doug Bates of Kapaun and against David Cruz of Hugoton. Dunn lost in the semifinals by pin against Luis Ledesma of Goodland. The next day, Dunn won by decision against Ian Kampe of Haysville Campus to earn his way to wrestle for third place. Dunn fell short and lost by decision to Trey VanPelt of Hays.

Shaye Aumiller, being the 16th seed in the bracket, wrestled his way to sixth. Aumiller lost his first match by pin to Anthony Gaona of St. Thomas Aquinas. The next day, Aumiller picked up wins in the next three matches, winning by pin against Jose Padilla of Lakin, Abraham Garcia of Hugoton, and Alex Corpus of Ulysses to earn his way to a medal.

Trego had four other wrestlers that attended the tournament: Colby Burkhart, Jory Micek, TJ Hafliger, and Brady Mattke.

Other wrestlers attended the varsity tournament in Atwood on Saturday, January 20. Dalton Hendrix placed fourth in the 113 weight class, Blake Spencer placed second in the 182 weight class, and Parker Opat placed first in the heavy weight class. Others who went to Atwood were Sydney Boyle and Jessika Chapman.
