Trego wrestling competes at Oberlin tournament

On Saturday, January 13, the TCHS wrestling team traveled to Oberlin to compete in the tournament they held.

Brady Mattke, who competed in the 285 weight class, placed third and earned 16 points for the team. In his first round, Mattke won by fall over Hunter Cunningham. In the second round, Mattke fell to Wyatt Glassman. In the third round, Mattke once again won by fall over Zeke Jimenez. In the fourth and final round, Mattke beat Jeron Lippert by fall. Mattke finished the day with 3-1 record.

In the 170 weight class, Jory Micek earned one team point and placed fifth. In the first round, Micek won by major decision over Blayn Waters. In the second round, however, Micek fell to Jayce Hamel. The third round hailed a loss by major decision to Carlos Tarin. Kody Hahn won by decision over Micek in the fourth round. In the fifth round, Micek once again fell, this time to Preston Nollette. Micek ended the day with a 1-4 record.

Wrestling for the 195 weight class, Shaye Aumiller earned zero team points but placed fifth. Aumiller fell to Reegon Witt in the first round. Losing by fall, Aumiller succumbed to Jared Cole in the second round. Aumiller once again fell in the third round to Dawson Holub. However, in the fourth round, Aumiller won by decision over Carson Berghuis. In the fourth round, Aumiller once again fell to Byron Roenne. Aumiller left the tournament with a 1-4 record.

Others competing were Dalton Hendrix, Colby Burkhart, and Blake Spencer. The Eagles’ wrestlers will next compete at the Bob Kuhn tournament in Hays on Saturday, January 20.
