Trego sends two to State Wrestling

Qualifying for State Wrestling, Dillon Dunn and Parker Opat will complete in Hays on February 22-23.

On Friday and Saturday, February 15/16, the TCHS wrestling team hosted the Regional Wrestling tournament

Wrestling in the 285 weight class, Parker Opat achieved a second place medal and a bid for the State Tournament. In the first round, Opat received a bye. The championship quarterfinals proved easy for Opat, pinning opponent Connor Staab from TMP in 1:05. In the semifinals, Opat won by an 8-4 decision over Brewster’s Zack Johnson. Facing his most daunting opponent, Opat wrestled the undefeated Hadley Panzer of Lakin. Opat lost by fall in 3:10.

Also qualifying for State was Dillon Dunn in the 220 weight class. Beginning in round two, Dunn won by fall over Kiefer Smith of Goodland in 57 seconds. In the quarterfinals, Dunn won by an 8-2 decision over William Penrod from Hill City. Dunn then faced Hayden Wiltfong of Norton. The match ended with Dunn losing by fall in 1:10. Facing Tanner Dewey from Cimarron in the consolation semifinals, Dunn won by fall in 2:20. In the consolation finals, Dunn lost by a decision of 6-0 against Reegon Wilt from Oberlin.
