Trego volleyball excels at MCL

The TCHS volleyball team competed at the Mid Continent League championships on Thursday, October 12, and Saturday, October 14. The Lady Eagles snatched the runner-up position with a 4-2 record.

On Thursday, Trego went up against Plainville and came out the victor after going through three sets. The first set, Trego fell to the Cardinals 22-25. Then, Trego came back beating Plainville 25-21. In the final set, Trego wrapped it up winning with a score of 25-15.

In the next match, also on Thursday, Trego beat Hill City in two sets. In the first set, Trego won with a score of 25-22. Despite a close score in that set, Trego came back with a 25-12 to leave Thursday with a record of 2-0.

On Saturday, the Eagles had a slow start, falling to Smith Center after three sets. Trego lost the first set 16-25 but then retaliated with a win of 25-20. However, the girls once again lost in the third set with a score of 27-25.

Coming back prepared, Trego went up against Ellis. Winning the first set 25-18, the Eagles also won the second set 25-13.

Trego was Pool B runner-up where they defeated Stockton, winner of Pool A, after three sets. In the first set, Trego fell to the Tigers 21-25. In the second set, however, Trego came back to beat Stockton 27-25. In the last set, Trego once again won with a score of 25-22.

In the last match, Trego went up against TMP. Playing only two sets, Trego fell to TMP in the first with a score of 21-25. In the final set of the day, Trego once again lost to TMP with a score of 18-25.

Senior Taylor Sells, when asked how their MCL success prepared them for sub-state, weighed in on the events of the day.

“It’s given us confidence and we proved to ourselves that if we play our best, we can beat anyone.”

The Lady Eagles will next compete at home for their sub-state title on October 21.
