Trego tennis grabs third at Phillipsburg

Senior Cambrie Kemp plays aggressively at Phillipsburg on September 4.

On Tuesday, September 4, the Trego Lady Eagles travelled to Phillipsburg and brought home third place as a team.

Number one singles player Adrian Dietz ended with a 4-0 record. She dominated Hays of Ellsworth with a score of 8-3. She moved on to defeat Railstock of Norton, 8-2. She then overcame Pummell of Russell. In the final round, Dietz beat Roth of Phillipsburg, 7-4. She walked away with a first place medal.

Playing for number one doubles, Hannah Kinderknecht and Tillie Malinowsky finished the day with a record of 2-1. They fell to Sheridan and Kroboth of Ellsworth, 0-8. They picked themselves up to beat both Woodyard and Davis of Norton and Coker and Post of WaKeeney, 8-6.  They finished in third place.

Cambrie Kemp, number two singles, went 0-3 for the day. She was defeated 4-8 by Soukup of Ellsworth. Yeager of Norton overcame Kemp, 2-8. In a tough round, Kemp was beaten 1-8 by Guenot of Russell.

For number two doubles, Gracie Hickson and Desiree Littlechild finished the day 1-2. They first fell to Cunningham and Talbott of Ellsworth, 0-8. Again, Cole and Russell of Norton defeated Hickson and Littlechild, 1-8. In the next round, however, they overcame Hendrich and Goodenough of Russell, 8-2.

The Lady Eagles’ next appearance will be in Great Bend, Saturday, September 8.
