Eagle tennis faces ups and downs

The Lady Eagle tennis team had a busy week as they travelled to Ellsworth and Central Plains on September 19 and 20.

The tennis team had a strong day at Central Plains, bringing home a second place medal for their team.

Number one singles player, Adrian Dietz had a 2-1 record for the day.  She began the tournament with a solid win against Hoisington, 8-6. She faced tough competition in Emily Ryan of Central Plains, which resulted in her only loss of the day, 0-8.  Ending the day with a win, she beat Hoisington 8-1.

Molly Moden and Julian Coker teamed up for number two doubles for the first time, walking off the court with a second place medal. They started off the day with a strong win by leading Mooney and Burgess from Hoisington, 8-0. Their one loss was to Central Plains, 6-8. In their third match of the day, they came together and beat Ellsworth, 8-3.

Valerie Scott, used to playing doubles with Moden, played number two singles and also earned an individual medal for second place.  She followed the same pattern as her teammates, beating her first opponent, Hoisington, 8-1, but losing to Central Plains, 5-8. However, Scott came back for a victory against Ellsworth, 8-6.

The number one doubles team of Kacie Dunn and Lexus Haxton faced some difficult yet close matches and ended the day 0-3.

The day before, the Ladies competed in Ellsworth and finished in sixth place as a team. Coach Lori Dietz commented that the day was full of ups and downs with weather acting as a factor.  Despite this, the girls had "some of the best matches ...yet."

Molly Moden and Valerie Scott had the strongest performance of the day with a 2-1 record which put them in fifth place. They beat Concordia, 8-2. Moden and Scott lost to Central Plains, 1-8.  They finished with a win against Trinity Catholic with a score of 8-4.

Adrian Dietz finished with sixth place with a record of 1-3. First, she lost to Pratt, 0-8. She beat Ellinwood, 8-1. Dietz had another loss to Smokey Valley, 6-8. She played Pratt again and lost in a tiebreak 7-8(8-10).

Lexus Haxton and Kacie Dunn’s first lost to Smokey Valley, 0-8. They lost to Concordia, 0-8. They won their last one to Trinity Catholic, 8-4. Haxton and Dunn ended up seventh place with a record of 1-2.

Julian Coker ended up eighth place with a record of 0-3. Her first loss was to Smokey Valley, 1-8, and her second match was a loss to Ellinwood, 6-8. Lastly, she fell to Concordia, 5-8.

The team’s next meets are the Trego Invitational on September 24 and League will be held in Phillipsburg on October 1.
