Trego tennis competes well at first meet

On Thursday, August 23, the Lady Eagles started off the season with a home meet.

Number one singles player Adrian Dietz finished the day with a 4-0 record after defeating Russell 6-0, Norton 6-0, Phillipsburg 7-5, and Osborne 6-0. Dietz went home with a gold medal in-hand.

For number one doubles, Tillie Malinowsky and Hannah Kinderknecht walked away from the court with a 2-2 record. They first defeated Russell 6-0. They moved on to defeat Cambrie Kemp and Paige Post of Trego 6-2 and Phillipsburg 6-0. However, they fell to Osborne 3-6. They earned a third place finish.

Julian Coker, number two singles, completed the round robin with a 0-4 record. Facing tough competition, Coker fell to Russell 2-6, Norton 3-6, Phillipsburg 0-6, and Osborne 2-6. Coker ended with a fifth place finish.

For number two doubles, Gracie Hickson and Shaelyn Cleland held their own with a final record of 3-1. They first defeated Russell with a score of 6-4. In the next round they also won against Norton 6-4. They then were overcome against Phillipsburg, ending 0-6. They came back to beat Osborne 6-0. By the time the sun went down, they had second place medals in their hands.

Adrian Dietz offered her feelings of the meet:

“As a senior, playing my first meet for this season at our courts makes me excited for the season. I’m cherishing my last moments on these courts. I also cherish these last moments with my mom coaching me.”

Paige Post who filled in number one doubles for Norton with Cambrie Kemp also said, “It gave me encouragement knowing that even [though] it is my first year playing tennis that I’m not terrible at it."

Trego Lady Eagles’ tennis will next compete at Ellsworth on Tuesday, August 28.
