Eagles end season with hard-fought game

Dodging number 31, Gracie Pfannenstiel moves in to the basket before the ball is knocked out of bounds by Hill City.

The TCHS girls’ basketball team faced the Hill City Ringnecks in the 2A Sub-State Semifinals on Thursday, March 1.  The game was an intense and hard fought battle, but the Eagles ended just short of a win.

During the first quarter, the Eagles started out on top, maintaining a slight lead.  However, the ladies struggled against the Ringneck defense, and the Ringnecks edged ahead in the second quarter.  When the buzzer signaled half-time, the scoreboard was 26-31.  It would be a deficit that the Eagles would not be able to make-up.

The Eagles returned from the locker room determined and focused.  Trego outscored the Ringnecks by one point and brought the point spread to four.  The Eagles and Ringnecks were basket for basket in the fourth, and both teams had 17 points. When the clock ran out, the final score was 57-61.

Lili Shubert was top point earner for the Eagles with 23 points.  Tillie Malinowsky followed with 11.

The Eagles ended with a 15-7 season.
