Lady Eagles come close to victory

On Tuesday, January 31, Lady Eagle’s basketball played a home game against the Plainville Cardinals. They fought hard and barely lost with the final score of 42-46.

Keeping up a good fight in the first quarter, the Eagles scored 13 points to the Cardinal’s 16. Playing well in the next quarter, Trego took 10 more points while Plainville only made six. The score at half-time read 23-22.

In the third quarter, the Eagles struggled, only taking six points to Plainville’s 11, making the score 29-33. Trego came back in the fourth quarter, scoring 13 points; however, the Cardinals matched this by also making 13 points, and the Eagles could not quite get ahead. The final score was 42-46.

Top scorer for the team, Emily Buchholz, scored 15 points; she was followed by Adell Riedel with 13 points. Riedel led in rebounds, making six defensive and one offensive rebounds. She was followed by Buchholz, who made three defensive and three offensive rebounds.

Riedel commented about the team’s improvement over the course of the season.

“We have begun to box out and rebound better, breaking the press with fewer turnovers and pushing the ball more.”
