On Friday, November 30, the Lady Eagles’ basketball team started the season with an exciting win against the Dighton Hornets, 38-33.

Already gaining a small lead in the first quarter, Trego took nine points to Dighton’s six. Stretching the lead even further, the Eagles scored an additional 11 points in the second quarter to the Hornets’ five.

The Lady Eagles lost some of their momentum in the third quarter, getting outscored by Dighton 7-13, which left the score at a close 27-24 going into the final quarter; however, the Eagles did not give in and again outscored the Hornets 11-9 in the last quarter, resulting in a final score of 38-33.

Libby Frost was the top scorer with 14 points, and Lili Shubert followed Frost with nine. Emma Day was the team’s leading rebounder with eight. In addition, the Eagles forced Dighton into 21 turnovers.

Coach Donnie Shubert weighed in on the team’s performance.

“The Eagles played excellent defense.  With a one-point lead in the last minute of the game, the girls did not give Dighton any good looks at the basket.”

The Lady Eagles will play in the Purple and Gold Tournament hosted at home through Dec. 3-8.
