Dancers please crowd with ‘thrilling’ performance
Costumed dancers got a jump on Halloween scariness when they filled the football field on Thursday night to dance to “Thriller” by Michael Jackson.
The Golden Girls, under the direction of Sponsor Gina Halksworth, led approximately 75 people-- from wee little ones to community adults--who performed at the Trego-Plainville football game on October 30.
Halksworth got the idea for the community dance after seeing one performed at Garden City’s community college last year. She wanted to “give it a shot” to “grab the crowd’s attention.”
“Word of mouth” advertised the event, and the Golden Girls helped recruit dancers, too. Since August 11, there have been six practices, with October 27 as the time for the final dress rehearsal.
To create a Halloween mood, dancers all dressed the part, with ghoulish-looking costumes and makeup. Dancers were responsible for their own costumes; however, some were borrowed from the drama closet in Halksworth's classroom.
Halksworth viewed the dancers as amazing.
“I was so proud of this amazing group from our community. It was a blast, and they stunned the crowd as expected. I hope to get some future dancers as a reflection of this THRILLING experience. All of my extras worked hard, and my dancers and I are forever grateful.”
