Trego cross country makes history

On October 22, the Trego Cross Country traveled to Tribune for the Regional meet on a very windy and cold day. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams made it to state. The girls’ team was the runner-up for the meet, and the boys' placed third.

Coach Gayle Pfannenstiel sent out her congratulations. “Way to go; I’m so proud of you…  This is the first time we have ever qualified both teams to go to STATE at the same time!”

First, the girls took the field. Helen Giefer led the way placing first in 20:39.76. Close behind, Sybil Giefer came in second with a time of 21:13.30. Aleah Howard, who placed 14th, ran a 24:10.18

The others for the team included Sydney Boyle, who finished in 21st, crossing the line in 25:28.55. Gracie Hickson ran a 27:07.19 and sprinted to the line for 33rd.

For the boys’ team, Bernard Giefer placed fourth and ended his race in 18:37.05. Wyndom Giefer finished seventh and ran an 18:58.75. Willy Barney ended his race in 11th and ran a 19:16.86.

For the remainder of the team, Benjamin Anderson ran a 20:54.49 and finished in 31st. Andrew Mejia finished 41st and ran a 22:02.87. Evan Wilds, who finished in 56th, ran over the line with a time of 30:27.56.

The Trego Cross Country teams will compete next at the State Meet in Wamego on October 28.
