Trego cross country waits for no one

Cross Country 9/8
Appearing completely focused on maintaining his lead, Wyndom Giefer finishes in first at the Greeley County High School Invitational on September 8.

The cross country runners changed course on Saturday, September 8, running at the Greeley County High School Invitational after the Wamego Invitational was cancelled due to flooding.  The team, however, took the change in stride and had a successful day.

The day was particularly good for the girls’ team, who finished in second.  Helen Giefer was clearly not in the mood to wait for anyone and finished the course in 19:43.16.  Sybil Giefer followed H. Giefer across the line in 22:00.10, putting the two sisters in first and second.  Regan Moritz, a newcomer to the team, finished in 24:35.  Sydney Boyle crossed the finish line in 25:43, and Louise Lehy completed the race in 28:35.

For the boys’ team, top runner Wyndom Giefer ran the course in 17:24.92, a very comfortable 27 seconds ahead of the second place finisher, Trevor Fischer of Wallace County.  Giefer was followed by his teammates William Barney, 19:42; Benjamin Anderson, 20:35; Clay Burk 22:12; Andrew Mejia 23:13; and Evan Wilds 27:33.  The boys’ team ended the meet in sixth place.
