The Trego Eagles take home the gold at Hill City Invitational

Drafting on the downwind, Sybil Giefer fires up the hill. Giefer commented on the events of the evening, “Although it was hot and windy, I really enjoyed being at the meet, especially when the girls’ team won because it’s the first time we have been able to run as a full girls’ 2A team. It was really exciting when they announced we got first!”

Despite another hot and windy day, Trego was successful at the Hill City Cross Country Invitational meet on September 21. The girls’ team ran away with first place with a point total of 53; the boys got third with 72 points.

For the girls’ team, Helen Giefer crossed the finish line in first with a time of 20:47. Sybil Giefer came close behind in third with a time of 23:03. Aleah Howard finished the race in eighth with a time of 25:08.

Other girls running were Sydney Boyle with a time of 29:49 and Gracie Hickson with a time of 31:08.

Helen Giefer commented, “I thought we did really well in spite of the bad weather. It was a bigger meet with a lot of competition, but both boys and girls worked really hard and it paid off.”

For the boys, Bernard Giefer won a third place medal with a time of 19:10. Following was Wyndom Giefer, finishing in sixth with a time of 19:52. Close behind, Willy Barney came in sixth with a time of 19:52.

Others who ran were Benjamin Anderson, who finished with a time of 23:21; Andrew Mejia with a time of 23:55; Cooper Desormiers with a time of 26:30; and Evan Wilds with a time of 29:48.

The Eagles will compete next on September 28 at Ness City.
