On August 31, the Eagles cross country team ran at Prairie Dog Golf Course in Norton. The boys’ team ended their run with a silver medal.  The girls did not have enough runners for a team but took the top spots as individuals.

For the girls’ team, Helen Giefer led the way obtaining a gold medal and running a time of 19:38. With a time of 20:37, Sybil Giefer ran across the line in second place. The senior for the girls’ team, Aleah Howard, ran a time of 23:32 and achieved a seventh place medal.

The boys’ team saw Wyndom Giefer come in third with a time of 18:28. Right behind him, the senior for the boys’ team, Bernard Giefer, ran a time of 19:04 and procured a fifth place medal. The next runner for Trego to cross the line, medaling eighth place, was Willy Barney who ran a 19:42.

Also running for the boys’ team were Benjamin Anderson running a 22:48, Andrew Mejia running a 22:57, Cooper Desormiers running a 24:29, and Evan Wilds running a 29:24.

The boys’ team medaled in second place with 56 points, dominated only by Norton.

First time runner Wyndom Giefer weighed in on the experience.

“It was fun and exciting and I am glad I got fourth. But I wish the guy behind me hadn’t sprinted off in the end and passed me,” he added with a smile.

The TCHS cross country team will run once again at the Wamego Country Club in Wamego next Saturday, September 9.
