Brother and sister bring home championships

Both cross country teams had some impressive finishes at the Mid Continent League Championship and Phillipsburg Invitational in Phillipsburg on October 5. In addition, Bernard and Helen Giefer both brought home the MCL Championships.

Bernard Giefer came in first in both meets with a time of 18:28.1, making him the new MCL Men’s Champion. Bringing home her third MCL Championship, Helen Giefer also took gold in both meets with a time of 20:19.22.

Helen Giefer, who races with all three of her siblings, admits that they push her to run faster while making the experience more enjoyable.

“I think it’s really fun running with my siblings because we can push each other in workouts and races, but when we just jog, we have a lot of fun talking,” stated Giefer.

Bernard Giefer was followed by his brother, Wyndom Giefer, who crossed the finish in fifth place with a time of 18:59.55. Also bringing home an MCL and meet medal was Willy Barney with a time of 19:19.33.

Also running for the boys’ team were Benjamin Anderson, Andrew Mejia, Cooper Desormiers, and Evan Wilds.

average time of 19:34.09.

For the girls’ team, Sybil Giefer crossed the finish line in third with a time of 21:28.42. Aleah Howard finished in 15th with a time of 23:48.54.

Also running for the girls team were Sydney Boyle and Gracie Hickson.

The girls ran hard bring home third place in both the invitational and MCL with an average time of 22:54.99.

The Eagles’ cross country team will next compete at Wheatland-Grinnell on October 12.
