Cross Country state bound

Cross Country 10/20 //Wyndom Giefer
Charging towards the finish line, Wyndom Giefer looks for an individual qualification by placing in fifth at Meade on Saturday, October 20.

After strong performances at the 2A Regional Meet on October 20 in Meade, it is no surprise that several cross country team members will be making their way to the State Meet in Wamego next Saturday.

The girls’ team followed Ellinwood and finished second, qualifying their team to run at State. Team members include Helen Giefer, Sybil Giefer, Regan Moritz, Syndey Boyle, and Louise Lehy.

The girls' team proudly displays their plaque in Meade on Saturday, October 20. Having placed in second, the Lady Eagles earned a trip to State.

The top runner and regional champion, Helen Giefer completed the race in 19:08.9.  Finishing in the top position is not a new experience for Giefer, yet she remains humble.  “Being the first runner on the girls' team requires me to set a good example for the others on the team. I always try to work hard and not complain.”

Sybil Giefer also earned an individual trip to state finishing fourth in 21:09.

Wyndom Giefer also earned an individual trip to state by finishing fifth in 18:03. Giefer, who is also the MCL champion, thanked his fellow teammates who have “pushed [him] the whole way.”

Also running for the boys’ team were Benjamin Anderson, Clay Burk, Andrew Mejia,   Evan Wilds, and Garrett Kuhn.
