Tennis team competes at Russell

The TCHS boys’ tennis team traveled to Russell to compete at their first meet of the season on March 29.

Playing for number one singles, Branden Swart unfortunately lost his first match with Dalton Penka of Larned, 4-8. With having a bye for his second match, Swart came back to beat the home team Russell player, 8-0. However, Swart had to face Larned again and fell to Penka, 3-8. He placed fourth overall.

Dylan Pfeifer played as the number two singles player representing Trego. Pfeifer flew out of the gate and defeated Larned, 8-4 in his first match of the season. Pfeifer lost to his second opponent of the day and went 1-8 with Ellsworth. Pfeifer next faced Hoisington and came close to overtaking the opposing team but was edged out 6-8. In his last match of the day, Pfeifer once again triumphed over Larned, 8-4. Pfeifer played fifth overall.

Austin Kinderknecht and Leyton Brock competed as the number one doubles team. The pair dominated Cimarron in their first match 8-0, but couldn’t catch Ellsworth in their second match 0-8. Trego faced Larned in the last match of the day and unfortunately lost, 3-8. They placed fourth overall.

Jory Micek and Dylan Johnson played for number two doubles. Trego passed Cimarron in their first match, 8-1. Ellsworth showed no mercy though and defeated the pair, 8-3 in the second match. The duo still couldn’t squeeze a win over Larned in the last match of the day. They lost  8-3 and placed fourth overall.
