Trego triumphs over Wheatland/Grinnell

Moving the ball out of the opponent’s reach, Carter Minson looks for an open teammate to pass to.

The TCHS boys’ basketball team took on the Wheatland Thunderhawks at home on December 20.

At the end of the first quarter, the Eagles and the Thunderhawks were closely matched with a tie game of 10-10.  However, Trego pulled away from Wheatland with a score of 27-16 at the end of the half.

Fired up after halftime, the Eagles came out screaming and demolished the Thunderhawks by the end of the third quarter with a score of 41-25. While Wheatland tried to catch up with Trego in the fourth quarter, it was not enough to pull ahead.  The score at the buzzer was 51-37.

Emmit Owens led the team with 18 points scored and Alex Haxton was second with 9 points.

Hunter Price weighed in on the team’s performance.

“I think one of our strong points as a team was definitely playing good defense.”

The Eagles will next play in Oberlin on January 6, which was rescheduled from December 16.
