On Thursday, February 2, the Trego Scholars’ Bowl team headed to the regional meet in Leoti.

In the first round, the team faced St. Francis and came out on top with a final score of 40-10. Bernard Giefer scored 20 points, Helen Giefer scored 10, and Clay Burk had 10 points.

For the third round, the opposition was Syracuse. It was a tight round. Trego could not come out on top being outscored 40-30. Bernard Giefer answered two questions correctly earning 20 points, and Helen Giefer scored 10.

After a bye, the Eagles moved on to round five where they would fight Decatur County. The Eagles found that there was no messing with Decatur as they were outscored 50-10. Scoring the only points, Bernard Giefer correctly answered one question.

Trego came back in the sixth round to oppose Kinsley. They came out on top scoring 30 points to Kinsley’s 10. Scoring all the points, Helen Giefer achieved 30 points.

In the final round, the Eagles faced Hoxie. Trego won the round 50-30. Scoring was Benjamin Anderson with 30 points, Bernard and Helen Giefer each with 10 points.

The Eagles just missed out going to finals because of a three-way tie for second place in their pool.

When asked about their season, Helen Giefer said, “I thought we had a great season overall. I was a little disappointed when we ended up missing finals by one place in a three-way tie, but we have a really great team, and hopefully we can improve even more by next year.”
