On February 2, the Trego scholars’ bowl team made the long trip to Leoti to compete at their regional meet. The Eagles just missed getting out of their pool and ended with a 4-3 record.

In the first round, the Eagles easily defeated Oakley with a score of 35-10. However, they could not quite take the win in the next round against Leoti, and the round ended with the score 40-50. Next, Trego played Meade and won 50-35. In the round against Atwood, the team took the win with the score 20-10. Trego’s next round was against Oberlin. They had to go to tiebreaker questions but ended up losing 40-50. The Eagles struggled against Hill City and lost 30-90. In the final round, Trego managed another close win, taking the victory over Greensburg with the score 30-20.

Top scorers were Helen Giefer, who answered 10 questions correctly, followed by Bernard Giefer with six and Benjamin Anderson with three. Other participants included Ruchi Bhakta, Aaron Windholz, and Clay Burk.

Coach Dawn Knipp weighed in on the season.

“It was an above-average season. We have some really dedicated members, and next year is looking even better.”
